Getting Started on Bluesky

Creating Your Account

  1. Visit bsky.app and sign up with your email
  2. Choose a handle (you can change this later)
  3. [Optional] Set up two-factor authentication for security
  4. Create an app password for third-party tools (see App Passwords section)

Custom Domain Handle

Setting up a custom domain handle is the automated way Bluesky verify individuals and is a good way to build the credibility on a new account.

If you have a handle that you would like to keep to help your discoverability when moving from a different social space, keep in mind you can also set up your handle on a subdomain, like [your_previous_handle.your_domain.com].

Crafting Your Bio

A well-crafted bio helps industry colleagues find and connect with you.

Profile Links

On the Edit profile window, the last section is called links and let you adds direct links to you profile. Bluesky automatically pulls the favicon, and the name of the page. You can edit the page name to your liking (max 30 characters).

You can also order the links the way you want once created by clicking and holding the six stacked dots at the right of your link.

How to verify your account

While Bluesky has an account verification system for personalities, journalist and officials, there is also a self service system through your domain names. Bluesky lets use a domain as your handle, it is easy to set-up, as long as you have access to the DNS settings of that domain:
